Loomia's goal is to provide sites with easy-to-use recommendation services that help people find things that that they like. Affordably, transparently, and without a lot of work.

Management Team

Dave McMurtry — CEO

Dave McMurtry manages Loomia's business and channel development efforts. Dave joined Loomia after a 14-year career at Intuit, the largest and most successful desktop and Internet software company in personal finance, small business management, personal and professional tax in the U.S.

During his long career at Intuit, Mr. McMurtry held a number of key roles, including managing outsourced technical support, product development, international operations, and most recently corporate development — strategy, mergers and acquisitions, and business development. During his 6-year period in this role, Mr. McMurtry's team led transactions worth more than $1.5 billion in acquisitions to Intuit's software and technology portfolio and executed over 25 partnership deals with more than 15 companies for delivery of technology, content, and services including partnerships with companies such as Yahoo, Google, AOL, D&B;, Paypal, GovWorks, Visa, Morningstar, Nolo, FedEx/Kinko's, DowJones, VeriSign, and eBay. Intuit was a one-product pre-IPO startup when he was asked by the founder to join in 1992.

Dave is a Sloan Fellow and has a Masters of Management from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business and a BS in Business Administration from California Polytechnic University. He is also President of HelpDaveChangeLives.org, a foundation to change lives around the world, as exhibited in the most recent project which raised $175,000 to build 35 houses for more than 200 victims of violence in a war-torn jungle village in northwest Colombia.

David Marks — Co-Founder/CTO

David Marks is cofounder and CTO of Loomia and leads the company's strategic and technical vision. David has led technical teams and developed strategic software solutions for over 12 years.

From 2000-2002, David was a founding member, architect, and product manager for Modulant Solutions, a pioneering semantics-based technology provider that was one of the first companies to use semantic approaches to address the issues of information interoperability.

Prior to Modulant, David was a principal engineer at Modem Media (acquired by Digitas/Publicis), an interactive agency. While there, he architected and implemented web-application solutions for a number of Fortune 1000 companies, including Visa, Miramax Films, and American Century Investments. Prior to Vivid Studios, he served as an application engineer for GoodCompany.com, a next-generation dating service, where he worked to automate the content publishing process. David attended the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.

David Leibsohn, VP Business Development

David Leibsohn leads Loomia's business development efforts, bringing key interdisciplinary experience in creating and managing successful partnerships.

Prior to Loomia, David served as a member of the Board and as VP Product Marketing at Syndicom, Inc., where he helped design and roll-out the company's visionary platform for online collaboration among medical-industry professionals. Before Syndicom, David was Director of Corporate Development at Excite@Home, where he led the company's $200M venture capital arm, and executed business development partnerships, acquisitions and joint ventures. David practiced corporate law atSilicon Valley's premier law firm of Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, guiding companies through technology partnerships, venture capital financings, IPOs and mergers and acquisitions. He currently is a managing member with the angel investment group Incas Fund LLC.

David earned a B.A. from the University of Washington and a J.D./M.B.A from Georgetown University.

Curtis Olson — Vice President of Engineering

As Vice President of Engineering, Curtis Olson is responsible for every aspect of research, development and support of the entire service offering of Loomia. Mr. Olson brings over 20 years of technology innovation and team leadership experience in a variety of roles including web developer, researcher, consultant, database architect, trainer and manager.

Prior to joining Loomia, Mr. Olson was president and founder of Data Tier Technology, a company specializing in engineering management, internet applications development and database architecture. He also was Chief Development Officer at Modulant Solutions where he led the development of an industry leading semantics-based integration product suite and Vice President of Engineering at Modem Media, Inc. where he delivered innovative eBusiness and system integration solutions to Fortune 500 and start-up clients. Mr. Olson was the Director of Technology Services at Vivid Studios where he was a key member of the management team that completed a merger with Modem Media for a 5X return in less than 1 year.

In addition to his hands on industry experience, Mr. Olson has developed and taught technology-related courses in the University of California system and in various professional settings and has presented at industry conferences including Web Design World. Mr. Olson holds a BS in Computer Information Systems from DeVry University.

Ken Fromm — Co-Founder/Operations

Ken Fromm oversees Loomia's finance, business operations, and marketing. He is a serial entrepreneur with 20 years of experience in digital and Internet technology. From 2000 until 2003, Ken worked in corporate development at Modulant Solutions, a semantics-based technology provider. His responsibilities included business and channel development, licensing and contracts, operations, and intellectual property management.

Prior to joining Modulant, Ken was a co-founder of Vivid Studios, a pioneering web development company. He was a key part of Vivid's growth and development from its start in 1991 until its sale to Modem Media in 2000. He was a board member and company leader, held several management roles in corporate development, production management, and engineering, and negotiated over 50 service and technology licensing contracts with clients that included Nike, Schwab, American Century, Miramax, Kellogg, Bank of America, Commerce One, and Arthur Andersen.

Ken writes and speaks on issues related to digital media and personalization technologies. He has published four books on computer topics, one of which, Multimedia Demystified, served as a foundational basis for modern interactive development. He has served on the faculty of Alumnae Resources and the San Francisco State University Multimedia Program. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Michigan (1987) with a BS in Computer Science.

Francis Kelly — Co-Founder/Chief Architect

Francis Kelly is Loomia's Chief Architect and is responsible for overseeing the development of Loomia's recommendation and personalization platform and managing Loomia's software development processes. He has 17 years experience in software development and IT consulting beginning with porting the Oracle RDMS to the Cray supercomputer, extending into heavy web application development and web-database connectivity issues, and lately concentrating on scalable and high quality recommendations algorithms.

Prior to joining Loomia, Francis provided technical services to Dennis Kucinich's presidential bid. He also oversaw the technical development and launch of TallDates.com, an online dating service. Prior to that, he spent two years building a Java-based content syndication platform for Learning Network, a subsidiary of Pearson plc.

In the early 1990s, Francis lived in Paris for three years where he held various consulting positions, taught at the Sorbonne, and translated a number of technical articles. He graduated from Yale University summa cum laude with a BA in mathematics (1990) and is a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
