Loomia Offers the Industry's First Recommendation Service Specifically for Media and News Websites with Rapid Content Delivery
San Francisco - July 16, 2007 - Loomia (www.loomia.com), an emerging leader in the recommendations and personalization space, today announced it will provide recommendations capabilities for The Wall Street Journal Online at WSJ.com.
“Our goal is to deliver a more personal experience for our users by seamlessly exposing them to the depth and breadth of content across The Wall Street Journal Online,” said Daniel Bernard, General Manager of WSJ.com. “Our audience is comprised of the most informed and influential users online, and Loomia's service enables us to connect our users via the articles and interests they have in common. Initial results are quite positive, with Loomia Recommendations driving thousands of incremental pageviews.”
Recommendations provided by Loomia will appear in a module next to WSJ.com articles, under the header “People Who Read This...Also Read These Stories.” These recommended articles are based on a user's current reading as well as their past behaviors around related content on WSJ.com, such as time spent or printing an article. These behaviors are matched against other users who share similar interests, generating article suggestions that are more relevant and personalized.
Recommendation technologies have typically relied on finding patterns in usage over long periods of time across large numbers of users. Loomia's patent-pending technology uniquely enables recommendations for news-based content with extremely short lifespans. Loomia does not require long periods of time nor large numbers of users to find recommendable usage patterns.
“The Wall Street Journal has long been the leader in online business news while Loomia has been the leading innovator in developing behavioral-based recommendations services,” said David Marks, Loomia CEO & Co-Founder. “With Loomia Recommendations, WSJ.com's users will spend less time searching and more time reading relevant and interesting articles. Today's announcement is an exciting extension of Loomia's mission to change the way users discover content and products across all media and retail websites.”
